Mabie Todd made a pen with a split lever for only about one year – 1919. It seems that they were trying to avoid the Sheaffer patent. Swan quickly changed to a more traditional lever design (although internally, it is attached to the pressure bar with a novel sliding mechanism). The pen does not cite the patent number. Two similar patents seem to exist that might be relevant.
